Recently Completed: Rockingham County – Route 921 (Lairs Run Road) Bridge

This project replaces the bridge over the North Fork of the Shenandoah River on Route 921 (Lairs Run Road) in Rockingham County. The project is about 0.2-mile long, extending from Route 259 (Brocks Gap Road) to 0.2-mile west of Route 259.

The existing single-lane, low-water bridge is about 15 feet wide and 114 feet long. It was built in 1974 and has reached the end of its service life. The new single-lane, low-water bridge will be located approximately 50-feet north of the old bridge. It will be 15 feet 8 inches wide and 120-feet long.

In 2016 Route 921 had an average daily traffic count of 125 vehicles per day.  By the design year of 2029 the estimated average daily traffic volume is 142 vehicles per day. 

The total estimated cost for this project is $1,905,152, including $375,000 for preliminary engineering, $79,951 for right of way and $1,450,201 for construction.

Benefits 

This project replaces a two-lane bridge built in 1974 that has reached the end of its service life with a modern structure that is able to support the weight of modern vehicles and traffic.
