In Design: Elden Street Widening in the Town of Herndon

This project will widen Elden Street from four to six lanes between Herndon Parkway and Fairfax County Parkway (about a third of a mile) in the Town of Herndon. The total length of the project between Monroe Street and Fairfax County Parkway is about a mile.
Other improvements include:
- Adding bike lanes from Monroe Street to Herndon Parkway and adding from Herndon Parkway to Fairfax County Parkway cycle tracks, which combine the user experience of a separated path with the on-street infrastructure of a conventional bike lane.
- Undergrounding overhead utilities between Monroe Street and Fairfax County Parkway.
- Replacing the culverts over Sugarland Run with a new bridge to provide better stream flow and reduce potential flooding.
- Landscaping and planted medians where feasible.
Elden Street averages up to 30,000 vehicles a day within the project limits.
