About the Study
The key objective of the study is to provide a planning level document that provides a technical review and analysis of the study area corridor. The study will be presenting concepts and strategies for potential corridor alternatives to help support future traffic and economic development in the region for the next 20 years. The area of interest for this study includes the segment of U.S. Route 58 from S.R 35 (Meherrin Road) to U.S. Route 58 Business (Camp Parkway). The study will serve as a planning tool to assist the Town of Courtland, Southampton County and VDOT in identifying and developing operational and capacity improvements strategies necessary to support anticipated traffic growth and economic vitality throughout he study area.
Status
This study is now complete and was approved at the November 23, 2015 Southampton County Board of Supervisors meeting. The study provided recommendations for the short term (0 to 5 years), midterm ( 5 to 15 years) and long term (15 to 25 years). The study recommendations will be used by the County as a guide to future growth in the corridor and transportation needs. The report is in final preparation and will be available soon.
