Recently Completed: Armistead Avenue Interstate 64 Bridge Rehabilitation Project

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) performed emergency repairs to a portion of the eastbound Interstate 64 bridge over Armistead Avenue near LaSalle Avenue in Hampton. 

Two box beams were replaced within the auxiliary ramp lane on the eastbound I-64 bridge, requiring the closure of the LaSalle Avenue on-ramp and auxiliary lane on I-64 east for the duration of repairs, as well as intermittent closures of Armistead Avenue in each direction.

Once the beams were replaced, the bridge deck within the ramp lane closure was milled and overlaid.

Benefits 

The emergency repairs will increase safety by replacing the bridge box beams. 

Major Milestones 

Work began February 2019 and was completed summer 2019.
